CBT Hertfordshire & North London

Helen Dee Lomas

Helen has ten years experience of working within mental health, for the NHS and the private sector, working with adolescents and with adults. She is married and has three children who are aged 16 to 22; two Jack Russell terriers and a cute ginger cat. She loves walking her dogs in Trent Country Park in Cockfosters, Hertfordshire and watching the changing seasons.

It is important to Helen that her patients feel valued and an equal partner in the process of their therapy. While she realises that at the start of their journey together, she is the specialist in CBT, the patient is the specialist in terms of the patient! Moving forward with the sessions, the patient becomes more and more knowledgeable in CBT, enabling them to become their ‘own therapist.’ Likewise, with the patient’s help, Helen becomes quickly more knowledgeable about the patient.

Helen hopes that her therapy will be accessible to all those who seek it;  for instance, she endeavours to reduce her costs where people have a low income and she tries to be flexible concerning locations and times of therapy sessions. The traditional method of therapy is face to face sessions; Helen also tailors sessions to suit individual circumstances and preferences, offering alternatives such as telephone, FaceTime or Skype, or email contact alongside or occasionally, independent of, face to face sessions.
